Beth Everhart’s photographic practice moves between the tactile traditions of the darkroom and the shifting possibilities of digital color. Her images dwell in thresholds—between presence and absence, memory and forgetting, banality and significance. Ordinary spaces and fleeting instants become charged with quiet tension, suggesting solitude, longing, and the subtle erosion of time.

In series such as Journey from the Scenic Route and NYC, Everhart embraces the unpredictability of pinhole and vintage box cameras. The resulting silver gelatin prints, selenium toned to deepen their resonance, seem to hover outside of chronology, echoing the fragility of memory itself. By contrast, her recent color digital works turn toward a sharper, almost forensic observation of the everyday: empty rooms, neglected corners, landscapes suspended in stillness. What at first appears plain becomes a meditation on abandonment, distance, or the traces people leave behind.

Across her body of work, Everhart returns to photography as both evidence and illusion—an art form that insists on presence while quietly gesturing toward what slips away.

Her work has been exhibited at Snug Harbor Cultural Center in Staten Island, the Mary Gearhart Gallery in New York, and the Edward Hopper House in Nyack. She is a past resident of Yaddo in Saratoga Springs and a recipient of an artist grant from the Brooklyn Arts Council.
